DRIVING FORCE OF TODAY

Watching the movie 'Varumaiyin Niram Sigappu' a few days back, set me thinking, how much has changed since then 1980 and now. Has poverty been alleviated to an extent or does the situation still remain so grim?Poverty, unmployment, hunger, starvation, nepotism, red tapism- all still remain, though i was not born when the movie was actually made in the early 80s and late 70s ,I am given to understand that this was a period when all these social evils were raisng its head and were fast growing into cancerous evils.Coming back to the question- has anything changed...I want to say yes but my mind asks me to key in NO. Seeing this if you get angry you are the first cause of all these social evils. As long as we have the me-centric thinkingnothing , just nothing will improve. trying to say that many me centred thinking will ultimately make up a nation is absurd.Make a nation- yeah, absolutely it will but, make a nation of egoistic, money-minded, unscrupulous, preposterous individualsfighting mentally, thinking only evil of others and waging cold wars with each other.

The rich have become richer and poor remain have remained poorer, this holds good and will hold good for aeons and aeons to come by.While those who have had acccess to money have gone on to make more of it and those who didnt have access to it have gone away from it further when the lower middle class became middle class the middle class became upper middle and the upper middle became the rich and affluent, well, what this resulted in.....an unjustified, exorbitant, increase in prices of essential commodities.Like the it industry has done in India. Real estate prices have risen like rockets, much to the dismay of general public. Who is responsible for this? Since the purchasing power has gone up so has the prices, karakara varikkum karandhudlam nu try panranunga...Recently when my cousin engaged a taxi from Central to his residence in East tambaram, he was demeanded Rs 600 flat! And the taxi driver said enna sir officela kodukkaranga neenga ennamo romba salichikkurenga kodukarathuku..The general perception is that every one else other than our own self has lots of money to playwith.I think, u have more money to play with, and u think i have ..No wonder they say..Pananmna ponamum vaiyaa polakkum.....

More and more engineers are being churned out each year without adequate means to place them in jobs. If the companies fault that, the candidates are not employable its the fault of the colleges and universities concerned.Anna university is very proud to call itself the largest university in the world, this is just like saying india is the second most populous or the first in AIDS cases. Are we still no thearing of hunger deaths in india. How many farmers commit suicide in vidharba and closer home in Andhra pradesh.Nepotism has increased not in any normal public office but in the corridors of power, be it dayanidhi or rahul or priyanka or karthi ...all are recepients of nepotism only,i quote jayalalitha in this regard" netru mulaitha kathukuttigal" she rightly termed, merely by virtue of so and so's son or daughter cannot pave the way to hold offices of power.

Red tapism seems the only thing which has come down since then, hats off to the RTI act. Its a comprehensive solution to counter bribery and corruption.People must be made aware of it by the media, yes the media has done its bit til now, but it has to play a greater part by canvassing for the public.the common man should have tha arrogance of the RTI power. The table must tide in his favour, till then we have to work.

As already quoted in my earlier blog- 20000 rupees and your virginity........ other evils such as pimping up for favours have definitely increased more so because people have begun to look at sex in a different way. Its being viewed as a mere object of pleasure. In my earlier blog i had stated that we must not feel ashamed or embarrassed to talk about sex since we are here because of that. The sanathana dharma states that the main aim of man is to propogate his species. Legend has it that Manu , considered the first human was asked by Bhrama the creator to propogate his species. So one of the basic aims of man is to propogate his species and for that alone sex is required. Its only an act of procreation and not of recreation. We must not seek to derive pleasure out of it. This is what vaishnavite and saiva ideologies advocate. misplaced facts by various yoga centres and doctors about sex have flared the appetite of men and women.Eve brought into this world all miseries? why and how? We all know the reason was sex. My question to all of you is this, when we can regard sex as only an object of pleasure and switch partners and commit adultery, why then do we view rape as different? What is going to happen is the same. Justify, men and women who have this view of sex. The world today is driven by only two things-sex and money. The former can buy the later and the later can buy the former. both are currnecies in todays world. Knowledge is taking a drubbing. Its important as individuals to realize this truth and to uphold our integrity. Just because IT pays we cant make it sway (us). The west is looking eastwards for mental relief, taking to yoga and classical music. So we better look inward and stay with our cultural roots. The need of the hour is control of senses.
Sensless we have become,
forgetting of things to come.
Sensible we need to be,
for the bright future to be.

What a week!!!!
This week has been one filled with sound of the victorious conch blowing .......Have we ever heard a sitting mP and a minister being convicted under section 302......if u havent heard then u ll definitely have a heart attack...not one but 2 of our mPs have been convicted and both found guilty of murder( not murder of democracy i m sorry u r getting to eutopian). the union coal minister mr shibu soren was convicted and arrested on the spot, inside the delhi district court premises !!! can u ever beleive such a thing happens in INDIA ??? as mr advani said rightly its UNPRECEEDENTED. thats not all...he was whisked away in a police van which soon broke down..phew! even the van couldnt stand this....and the icing on the cake finally...mr navjot singh sidhu..yes the same sherry is in slurry now..again another 302....i pinched myself again and again to make sure its not a dream....this is not the end of it..sanjay dutt found guilty under Arms Act ( he escaped TADA) ...faces upto ten years in prison......this with regards to our Hon'ble courts.....
cometh the hour cometh the man...but for team India cometh the hour goeth the man...first yuvraj, now joined by his captain dravid....and finally the wisdom.....where was this wisdom these 10 months....it took a maternity for these wretched seletors to realize that Ganguly should be in the team....when sachin is not doing what he should be ...when sehwag is not doing what he should be...then let ganguly be...and let him also not do...dont follow different yardsticks for different men...this to me is a classic example of how truth alone triumphs....poor ganguly! he was ousted by petty politics ..now that he is back, because there is no one else to rely upon for the team..yes, but he aint complaining....we are all here for him.he built this team and nurtured it....and one fine day a rapist called chappel along with a group of selectors headed by kiran more, gang raped it ( dont give an excuse that the team succeded initially...initially u had drugged and raped her and when the effect of drugs is no longer there she lost all herself in grief) , committed sodomy( in the name of batting experiments)...its better Saurav is reinstated and chappel made to mend his ways.....otherwise send him back to the grasslands.....
finally the worst part of it...my anna university exams started last week , and
paper 1 thermodynamics...eve teasing
paper 2 process industries..molestation
paper 3 heat transfer....sodomy
paper 4 mass transfer....??????????
paper 5 spl functions......????GEEEEKKKK

Podhum da saami...podhum da......
Like they say in Tamil....Thirudanai paarthu thirundhavittal, Thiruttai ozhikka mudiyathu...
Similarly......Manidhanai paarthi maaravittal manidha neyam valaradhu.....
Rhetorical statements one after the other and high profile visits...........Few days later yet another massacre on innocent people (Mumbai yesterday, Malegaon today, Kashmir daily).......more so children.....this is the height. I wonder if even Gandhi would have been silent at all these brutalities on humanity.
While every one is questioning if the terrorists have any ideology at all?Why is no one asking what the Govt. did these two months after the Mumbai nightmare?
Time and again condolences are expressed to the families of the deceased ,exgratia announced, and the PM comes out with a statement that we will not bow down to the divisive interests of the terrorists. Agreed Mr.PM but when are you going to send the message to the appropriate person that we are not going to tolerate this further. We can be peace loving no doubt but how long.....An aggressive peace process is the need of the hour.We need to back our statements with actions; rather our actions must make statements. May be you can call it black mail but what is the point in sitting at the table where one has come with a butter knife and the other a butcher's knife.
The butchering of lives has never stopped and is going on and on and on perpetually......
The peace process is at a very delicate stage now, so it’s the right stage to reinforce our statement as MEA has stated that the peace process depends on the outcome of the Cuban meet. If they are not prepared to listen, then they have to face the consequences, on the lines of Israel, at least some bit on the lines of Israel. Amidst protests from the whole world Israel was brave enough not to bow to the terrorizing ways of the Hizb’s (though the world was right here as Israel extended itself beyond its limits and damaged Lebanon grievously). So when Israel can why cant India? Will India issue a stern warning?
Will.....?Will....?????Will.....???

The will list goes on....
There are so many blanks to fill
But we are footing the bill
Bill of lives,
And widowed wives,
Orphaned children,
Left no where to run,
Out in the sun......
Not to play and be gay
Because they have none to stay,
with them and offer a few words of comfort.
They will never have anyone to come.
Their wait will be eternal.
Their wait will be eternal.

What role does the President have in India?

Well from entertainment I have moved on to the constitutional side now.
How many of us really know that the President is the constitutional head and it’s in the name of him that the entire Govt. functions. Most of us know and only think that prime minister is the be all and end all of the nation.Until the present president Dr.APJ none of the other presidents were in the news except at time went they went on a tour. Dr.APJ has tried something at least, for example he returned the office of profit bill, addressed many scientific meetings, sought for several clarifications, motivated children of course. He was a fairly active president. But otherwise most of them have been doing nothing at all.

This raises a question - is the president post a real necessity. Yes we need it but not as a puppet.
We need an active presidential post. The constitution should be amended for this.
Firstly the selection procedure.People who have served the nation in various capacities either in civil, military services or for that matter even in Pvt. firms should alone be considered. people from criminal err political back grounds should not be eligible. The regular procedure of vote by MPs can be followed then.Instead of the president addressing the parliament once a session, he/she can be made to attend all the proceedings of the house.

One wonders, if the vice president has been given the role of speaker in RS why not give an active role to the president in LS. Agreed that the speakers job is amongst the toughest as u have to handle manhandling politicians, so why not ask a specialist person adept at handling such men to man them rather than waste an MP for that post. Lets get back to the issue of an active President now. The president can be made to attend the proceedings of the house and at the question hour, a fixed slot for his questioning and clarifications sought can be provided. He must have the powers equivalent to that of speaker and rights equivalent to those of the MPs as they are the ones who choose him/her.He should raise issues of national concern at the parliament. He must have the authority to express his reservations at the floor of the house itself.Like the Prime minister and other ministers he has to come out with statements to the media. He has to be a checking authority for the government and should never be taken for granted as is now the case.

All these things if raised in public will snowball into a huge controversy. But then what’s the point in spending the taxpayers’ money for a president who does nothing but hosts dinners for dignitaries and makes friendly visits to other nations. Something is better than nothing, nothing is better than nonsense. Having a meaningless post of a puppet president is nonsensical to say the least. It’s better to have the post done away with. Else the post has to be made honorary and must have nothing at all to do with the government. As simple as that.

VV-YET ANOTHER MILESTONE FILM IN INDIAN CINEMA FOR SEVERAL REASONS

Another role, another director, another script,another...........thats what it is for the Legend of our times the Paramakudi born Kamalhaasan. Now Dr.Kamalhaasan,he has came out with a subdued yet scintillating performance in VV. You want to ask why Kamal didnt get a director like Gautham earlier.Technical brilliance is what the film is all about. Too much of gore and blood, yes . But, thats the way it has to be shown. If we have to keep making movies for the masses then indian cinema will never move forward.
Notable points in this film are one, kamal's acting, yeah its difficult to beleive he has acted, its only DCP Raghavan all the way from frame one to end. Second we have this director called Gautham who has bought out this product so well, the way he has directed a legend shows his calibre. i wonder if any movie has ever depicted scenes so boldly. boldness is mistaken for skin show. rather such scenes of rape and brutality need even greater boldness because skin shows will sell but there is always a tag attached to this kind of violence and gore and it can backfire as well. there are no lousy dances or stunts in this movies. no flying in the air and kicking heroes and stuff. the item number could have been done away with. neither did it have the right tune to rock nor was the video so jaw dropping . in a way such kind of exposures have become very very boring. in recent times i wonder if we have come across an actress who has come so close to stealing the show , as jo. she is yet another plus , sans glamour and passion she has done a brilliant job and its a pity that this one is going to stop after her next movie. the villan part is overdone a bit . nevertheless the way they are shown as homosexuals in the end will explain why in several scenes they keep crying each others name. Harris needs to tune up ...he has to learn the art of silence probably from the mastero raja or arr . certain scenes are jarring . otherwise the songs are a real class apart. the whole film has an aura of maturity surrounding it probably because of the lead pair kamal and jo. camerawork is another hero of the movie. goodwork ravi! new york couldnt have been shown better i guess.
prakashraj, kamalinee are excellent portrayals, perfectly etched and not a bit overdone.some of the scenes such as kamal meeting kamalinee in a marriage and making a proposal does make u smile. so does the other one in the restaurant between kamal and jo wen she asks y this manirathnam style of begining.a bit of humour here and there too.
as my title says its a milestone movie for the quality of workmanship. wat else do u expect from kamal and gautham. we want this team again, on an offbeat track.
kudos to raviverman,jo,kamal,gautham.
go for it .
likely to be the movie of the year according to me.
vennilave - song of the year.probably kamals filmfare awards will grow from 18 to 19

20,000 and your virginity restored??!!! Where are we heading to ??

Yeah its true.Just Rs 20,000 and women will have their hymens replaced by a small surgery. This surgery is called hymenoplasty. This has clandestinely started a few years back in Ahmedabad. The plastic surgeons have stated that even people from the west have started to make enquiries.Sooner rather than later they are bound to commercialize this for monetary gains.
Sociologists are up in arms against this and blame the doctors for keeping the people in the dark about sex.In India sex has never remained a taboo ,only talking about it has remained a taboo, otherwise how will you justify the rising number of cases of HIV+ patients .People who have tried to break free in this regard have meet opposition. For instance Kamalhaasan has several times stated on record that we need to be making films on sex to educate people, just by shirking away from it and not talking about it we are suffering .He has also stated in an column in the Chronicle dt.27-12-05 that the Government must consider lowering the marital age so that by the time they are inquisitive about sex they are married and needn't worry about contracting diseases.Another glorious example of resistance to people who have spoken out is the case of Kushbu&Suhasini. The so called protectors of Tamil culture PMK and DPI are now sitting in rival camps. The PMK which is part of the DPA must first exit it on the grounds that people like Karunanidhi are not helping their cause by having several wives.
In the first place absence of hymen does not indicate that the women is not a virgin. There are several other ways by which the hymen is broken, not only the first intercourse.
There are several issues which are thrown up.One is all this talk of virginity only with women. The government must immediately step in and ban this surgery forthright else. This further highlights the hypocratic attitude of the male community. While they want their wives to be untouched, they indulge in all sorts of pre-marital sexual practices. Not that extra marital or pre marital sex is uncommon in India, but the expectations of the males are unrealistic in todays society where almost every boy or girl would have had a pre marital affair of some sort.If you see most of the Hindu Gods are flanked by many wives be it Vishnu or his son-in-law Murugan.I'm not ridiculing them but we have worshipped those kind of people for ages. While Ahalya,Renuka,Sita...... were all punished by their husbands for not being chaste, never were Indra,Krishna,Arjuna,Bhima..... .This in a way says how we've treated our women and all the talk of women being held in high regard in the good old times is only humbug.
While more and more money is pumped into India in the name of IT along with it comes other western practices of exchanging partners, one night stands and what not. While we are ready to accept the money greedily we have to tackle these kinds of problems as well.Sex is cause for all misery ,as we know the story of Adam and Eve.Sex is also the reason why each one of us are here and there is no reason why young men and women must feel embarassed to discuss about it at appropriate forums.(That is one of the reasons I've spoken out on this issue.)The responsibility of this lies at the hands of the media which includes cinema.Cinema must play a very major role in these kinds of matters.People like Rajnikanth can maybe act as nice guys in movies and provide wholesome entertainment but they ought to fulfill their obligations to the society.By canvassing for causes such as AIDS he will only better the lives of so many young minds.
All this only re-iterates why we should have education about sex at high school and college.THIS is the only way we are going to overcome myths.Co-education must also be made a must. This also a major reason for all what is happening in the society right now rape,eve-teasing etc..,

As concluding remarks I would like to state the all this talk of virginity must go at once. All that matters is sincerity of partners and pure love.Ultimately ANBE SIVAM.

Taking higher education to masses-Really?
The move to introduce 49.5% reservation in all central universities(IITs,IIMs,DeemedUniversities etc..,) is totally attrocious. As such the country has been suffering from this evil since independnce and now this move seems to be only worsening this.
The argument of our HRD minister that the IIMs and IITs have been asked to increase their intake is totally baffling. In the first place will the universities raise their intake by almost 30%? Second most deemed universities are private instituitions and asking them to increase their intake at a time when there is already a huge contrversy between the deemed universities and a body of the stature of AICTE is totally absurdity at its height.
Reservation in various sectors ranging from education to jobs has been one of the primary reasons for the brain drain. Now that will only increase. As such most of the upper class is discontended with the existing reservation system. This rubs salt into their wounds.
Once the intake is increased further the standard of education will go down further.Haven't we seen in recent times people coming from very modest backgrounds making it to the top.Take for example the guy who once sold idlis -Sarath.The government is always taking the shortcut of reservation in higher education ,rather than increasing the standard of living of the oppressed classes and citing that as a move to increase their living. What needs to be done is better education at school levels so that they can make it to the elite instituitions by merit. As such this new scheme will cover up for most of the non Hindus.Of course many Hindu classes will also be benificiaries but most of the Christians and Muslims fall under the backward communities. No I'm not insinuating them. But is it not the truth?
The Govt. must rather create universites exclusively for its scheduled classes rather than tinker with the existing set up.The move comes as such from the Congress led Govt. ,and that too in the field of education ,so most sane individuals would agree that its not a move for the good.
Reservations , Reservations.

Promising the sun
While so much is being made of regarding the slew of promises being made by the DMK,the educated and the uneducated classes, both have questioned its possibility and feasibility.
If you would call giving television sets as absurd, how would you term giving away 2 acres of land to the landless and promising rice at Rs.2 a kg ,Rs300 a month for unemployed.................
The DMK President who is a vetran and is also considered a great master mind at evolving strategies pre elections seems to have got this one totally wrong.
The argument that TV is meant for educational and recreational purposes of women is one that'll he'll have to look at, as to how he was able to make such a comment when you have only sops playing all days in all channels. The move seems to aimed at enhancing their TV networks viewership and revenue most of which is allegedly unaccounted for.Shrewd that he is he might ultimately give people a 4 inch or 6 inch television made in China which will not cost more than a few hundred rupees.
2 acres of land to the landless..to this there are two baffling things that he'll have to answer. One is there enough land and two what is the exact definition of landless.Instead of defining what landless means at a later stage ,just in case he comes to power, he ought to clarify clearly rather than making such flirtatious promises.
Rice at Rs 2 a kg cannot be distributed without buying it at a lower rate from the farmers. There has to be a limit to his non pragmatism.Where will the money come from.Well it looks like he is trying to please himself that he has made very good promises to his people. Is he planning to use his private funds for this kind of a subsidy. He must remember that he made a similar promise of rice at Rs 1 a kg in a earlier election in the 60's but was not able to implement it after assuming power.
Promising Rs 300 a month for unemployed is yet another non pragmatic move. This 300 is going to be filled back into the Governments pockets and no prizes for guessing how .
Making a mockery of the judiciary has become a habit of our politicans.Even while our Honorable courts have struck down the religious reservations the DMK has promised reservation for the christians and muslims.
As a concluding note the manifesto seems to be lacking in idea rather the DMK's think tank has run out of ideas, and they have only promised the sun.
